Welcome to Minneapolis...
The high-tech capital of the United States' Midwest/Central Region, Minneapolis/St. Paul (Twin Cities) has had tremendous influence on the MMIC and Photonic Industries. This includes the founding/home of Control Data, Cray Research, 3M, Honeywell, Sperry, ADC Communications and many more.

An unexpected treasure that astonishes first-time visitors, Minneapolis offers all the sophistication you’d expect from a major urban destination, combined with a natural lushness that’ll draw you in.

The cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul sprung up on the banks of the Mississippi River in the middle of the 19th century. But long before that, Sioux and Ojibwe peoples called the area home.

With the construction of Fort Snelling in the 1820s, more and more Europeans moved into the area and established towns and businesses. One lucrative industry, flour milling, would give Minneapolis its foundation as a major industrial city.

St. Anthony Falls, named after the patron saint of the first known European to see them, gave the milling industry the power it needed to turn the city into the flour milling capital of the world. Until 1930, Minneapolis led the world in flour production. The industry established many major corporations that still exist today such as General Mills, Cargill, Pillsbury and more.

Many signs of days past still exist in Minneapolis, especially in the Riverfront District, where one can still wander through century-old mills. The Mill City Museum chronicles the flour milling industry and the early history of Minneapolis.

In sports, Minneapolis/Twin Cities is home to many successful professional sports organizations:

MLB: Minnesota Twins
NBA: Minnesota Timberwolves
NCAA: Minnesota Gophers
NFL: Minnesota Vikings
NHL: Minnesota Wild
WNBA: Minnesota LINX

Many semi-professional sports organizations and leagues also operate in the area.
